Here's a little Ramadan Activity for you and your kids

Activity age recommendation: 5-8 years old

We often heard about the Quran Revelation Day; the first surah recited to our Prophet Muhammad pbuh, Iqra'.

Currently my daughter (Arissa is 7 this year and it is her first year in Year 1) is struggling to go to school after being at home for almost 18 months. We have been homeschooling her during the pandemic (both my husband and I were working from home during that time too - we both had the privileged to homeschool her). She's having the withdrawal issue now and we are doing our best to help her through it. In the end of this activity, you'd see how we can encourage our kids to go to school if your kids are having the same issue like Arissa.

For the first infographic, you may talk about how our Prophet always keep himself away at Mount Hira'. He would adore all the creations - day, night, sun, moon, stars, the mountains and other creations of Allah. And one day on 15th Ramadan, Jibril came and said IQRA' (read) and Prophet replied he didn't know how to read and Jibril repeated again, IQRA'. that's how the surah Al-'Alaq came about and this is one of the most important dates for us - The Revelation of Quran. Maybe you and your kids can recite the surah too.

Second infographic - it was told that the Quran was known as The Protected sheet and it was kept at Luh Mahfuz. You may extend this to kids who are 7 year-old and above, that Allah keeps all the secrets in Luh Mahfuz, the stories about the first world was created, the life stories of our Prophet and ours are created here too. And if Syaitan and Iblis tried to sneak in to know about the secrets they would be chased away by the meteor shot by the Malaikat. This is why Islam forbids us from going to see the fortune teller as the Syaitan and Iblis would be the one telling all the false information.  Next, Al-Quran was revealed in the First Heaven known as the Baitul Izzah before it was sent to Prophet Muhammad pbuh through Jibril.

In the end, you may explain that Learning is SO important that first thing taught to our Prophet was IQRA' - Read. Learning comes in many ways, one of it is by going to school. They may learn new things in school not only from their teachers and books but also from their friends. The more they read, the better they would become.

Perhaps you may also explain that education comes in other ways too - the TV, YouTube Channel and other platforms too. Therefore, we must be very selective in choosing what to watch.

Additional Activities - you may create a bookmark with the kids by reusing the materials you have at home.
